I am looking for an LTO tape library. Do you have one to spare?

 pkg_add - Release Version mixup

So let me start by saying I'm relatively new to FreeBSD, not totally green just new.

I've been trying to wrap my head around the difference between ports and packages.

I found out that I can't use binaries listed here when I'm using an older version / release of FreeBSD. This is because pkg_add looks in my release branch of the packages ftp site. These packages are old because they are the ones compiled and tested on that release.

ie. ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-5.3-release/Latest/

The ports listing on freshports is a little misleading (to newbies like me). There is no "For Release 5.4 only" marked on the ports. Yet the "To Add the Package" directions only refer to the package not the port.

I ask / suggest that there be a note that the binary is compiled for Release X.X

This would have saved me lots of time trying to figure this out.

Greg
