Is it possible to track how many times certain port (package, actually) has been downloaded via pkg_add -r ? It would be nice to see that sort of counter for every port.

The files in question are not downloaded from FreshPorts. FreshPorts just tells you about ports. It does not create/maintain/distributed ports.

If you, or anyone else, can figure out how to gather these statistics, I'll be interested in talking about adding the information to the website.
