Is it just my old netscape browser that
forces me to resubmit search requests
after I have browsed a search request
result?
I have no such problem in browsing
google searches.
Thanks for the great site!

Please tell me more. I don't understand what you're talking about.

When I type in a keyword into the
search dialog, it presents a number
of web pages containing the keyword.
If I go into any of these presented pages,
I am unable to go back to my search list.
Eg search on ping. Go into apinger, go back
to search list.
My browser complains :
Data Missing
This document resulted from a POST operation
and has expired from the cache. If you wish you
can repost the form data to recreate the
document by pressing the reload button
So I must go back to the search dialog,
re-enter the keyword, and search again.
My search list results form some kind of
a dynamic page that is not cached. Maybe
there is some kind of metatag generated
by your search engine that causes this.
I dont run into this problem with
google searches though.
I am using netscape48 from the ports.
I like to browse your site, searching on
keywords that interest me, so I run into
this somewhat often.

OK. First, before I try to solve the problem, please verify that the problem exists at http://beta.freshports.org/. Once you do that, I'll try my test.

The search results work properly
using KDE/Konquerer.
The problem with search results appears
to be Netscape48 specific. It doesnt
cache the output of form post directives.
View Source gives me the Data Missing
error message.
There is probably a trick google uses to
get around this.
For now, dont worry about this, its
not your problem. Sorry to have
alarmed you.

I would still like to pursue this issue if you would like to. I think it may be a side effect of the META tags I'm using.
Does your other browser have the same problem at http://beta.freshports.org/?

It still happens under beta.freshports.org.
If noone else is complaining, dont worry
about it. I can work around the limitation
in my browser.
Netscape48 is the *unbroken* netscape in
the ports, so beware others may run into
this problem as well.

Good. I've made some simple code changes. Please try again.

If one person reports a problem, it's a safe bet that others are encountering the problem but not reporting it.

It still fails. What bizarre to me
is that the search results initially
display correctly, but View-Source
shows the error message, as does
using the back button in the browser
to back to the results page.
I need a different browser to help
troubleshoot this. 5.1Beta slowed
my computer down alot, which made
KDE unbearable, which moved me to
twm/netscape. I am looking forward
to 5.1R, maybe I wont need netscape
anymore.

I'm experiencing a slightly different problem with the main site. If I do a search on "php", it returns more than one page of results - but, the "next page" link fails to operate. It doesn't pass any _GET variables to the URL, so it can't load the next page of results.
