- improve category response times
- change old message ids from freshports.org to null.freshports.org

Or should that be @dev.null.freshports.org?
When doing that, be sure to alter the search-by-message-id code to change any searches on @freshports.org to the new hostname. When you do that, tell the user you did it, and why.

Done. It tells the user by doing a permanent redirect to the updated URL, which, as it happens, contains the message id.
