 understanding messages when "make install" gives options

Im not new to linux by any stretch of imagination, but I am new to freebsd.

so far, Im very happy, its been something of a struggle to figure out the nuances of things, but so far, working well.

I tried to do a "make install clean" of the xsane port

I got a message that says if I set "WITH_GIMP" then xsane will install as a gime plugin.

I dont understand how to set "WITH_GIMP".

Would someone please enlighten me, or give me a hint, Ive read the handbook on using ports, but it doesnt seem to cover this type of thing.

I did a google search but I got WAY too many results that didnt address the issue

I'm sure this is very easy if you know what you are looking for.
