Notes from UPDATING
These upgrade notes are taken from /usr/ports/UPDATING
  • 2010-05-02
    Affects: users of www/squid*
    Author: miwi@FreeBSD.org
    Reason:
Starting with squid* the directory containing the default cache and log
directory was changed from $PREFIX/squid/ to /var/squid/.

The default values for the following Squid configuration parameters have
      changed as shown below:

      cache_log from $PREFIX/squid/logs/cache.log to /var/squid/logs/cache.log
      cache_store_log from $PREFIX/squid/logs/store.log to /var/squid/logs/store.log
      pid_filename from $PREFIX/squid/logs/squid.pid to /var/squid/logs/squid.pid
      coredump_dir from $PREFIX/squid/cache to /var/squid/cache

Please check whether you need to define any of these variables in your
squid.conf to the old defaults explicitly before updating, especially if
you have set up automated log processing or automated log rotation. If you
define pid_filename in your squid.conf, you should also set squid_pidfile
to the same value in /etc/rc.conf, cf. $PREFIX/etc/rc.d/squid.

Retire Squid 3.2 on 15 September 2015

Squid 3.2 reached EOL when Squid 3.3 was released, and now Squid 3.4
is out. Squid only supports one stable release at a time. There are
no dependent ports on Squid 3.2. Users are recommended to move to
(unsupported) Squid 3.3 or introduce Squid 3.4 to ports.

www/squid, squid32, squid33: Reset maintainer

At least 2 PRs per port have been submitted to provide staging going back
to May, but the maintainer has not responded. These PRs prevented the
maintainer from being reset on the big pass, so do it now that there are
only 2 weeks left to stage these ports.

The FreeBSD x11@ and graphics team proudly presents
a zeising, kwm production, with help from dumbbell, bdrewery:

NEW XORG ON FREEBSD 9-STABLE AND 10-STABLE

This update switches over to use the new xorg stack by default on FreeBSD 9
and 10 stable, on osversions where vt(9) is available.
It is still possible to use the old stack by specifying WITHOUT_NEW_XORG in
/etc/make.conf .
FreeBSD 8-STABLE and released versions of FreeBSD still use
the old version.
A package repository with binary packages for new xorg will
be available soon.

This patch also contains updates of libxcb and related ports, pixman, as well

www/squid3x: upgrade to 3.1.23 and 3.2.6

Squid 3.1.23 is effectively Squid 3.1.22_2 with the final fix for
CVE-2012-5643 applied.

Squid 3.2.6 also received that abovementioned fix, but in comparison
with 3.2.5 from ports it has another change that fixes handling the
"tcp_outgoing_tos" directive for BSD-like systems, including FreeBSD,
  http://bugs.squid-cache.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3731

VuXML entry for SQUID:2012-1 (aka CVE-2012-5643) was also updated to
reflect the proper version specifications from the updated advisory,
  http://www.squid-cache.org/Advisories/SQUID-2012_1.txt
