Surfraw provides a fast unix command line interface to a variety of
popular WWW search engines.  It supports google, altavista, dejanews,
amazon.com, research index, slashdot and many others.  Output is
directed to a browser.

-browser     to fail.   * Note that SURFRAW_browser was made obsolete in 1.0.4. 
   SURFRAW_text_browser and SURFRAW_graphical_browser replace its    
functionality.   * State extra clearly the format of ~/.surfraw.conf.
