Why was the website so slow for so long?

The cause of the slowdown was a change to the ZFS dataset. In conjunction with the database server, very little caching was being done. This combination resulted in increased disk I/O as the system churned through the database. Details in the blog post which outlines the various things which changed. Many graphs.

babeltrace provides trace read and write libraries, as well as a trace
converter. A plugin can be created for any trace format to allow its conversion
to/from another trace format.
The main format expected to be converted to/from is the Common Trace
Format (CTF). The latest version of the CTF specification can be found at
git://git.efficios.com/ctf.git
gitweb: http://git.efficios.com/?p=ctf.git
The CE Workgroup of the Linux Foundation, Ericsson, and EfficiOS have
sponsored this work.
