The other half needs perl to build.

CC, CXX, CFLAGS, PTHREAD_CFLAGS and PTHREAD_LIBS may contain `/' in
them when using a non-default compiler/linker, so do not use `/' as
delimiter for s///. (I picked `|' instead)
