OpenVPN is a robust, scalable and highly configurable VPN (Virtual Private
Network) daemon which can be used to securely link two or more private networks
using an encrypted tunnel over the internet. It can operate over UDP or TCP,
can use SSL or a pre-shared secret to authenticate peers, and in SSL mode, one
server can handle many clients.
This development port is updated frequently and is much less well tested
than the formal releases, and functionality and APIs may change without
warning.
DO NOT USE IN PRODUCTION WITHOUT PRIOR TESTING FOR YOUR USE CASE.

security/openvpn-devel: Update to latest commit
This brings in the upstream development work of the last three months,
including a number of CVE fixes.
The previous commit erroneously bumped the date string used as the
version number to "2027". Fix that, and upgrade EPOCH to make it work.
Some maintenance on the port Makefile itself to address "portlint"
complaints and upstream changes (--enable-strict configure argument has
been dropped because the flags are always on now).
- Remove unnecessary GNU_CONFIGURE_MANPREFIX.
- Improve post-install-EXAMPLES-on.

*/*: Use C.UTF-8 locale
Ports 02f27a83b44d fixed the ports tree to the C locale so it would work
correctly in environments where users use a locale that isn't compatible
with the C locale, e.g. xx_YY.UTF-8 where [A-Z] includes more than just
upper case letters. USE_LOCALE was introduced to let ports use another
locale if they needed it. The C.UTF-8 locale was created later on to be
mostly compatible with the C locale.
Switch the ports tree locale to C.UTF-8 and remove USE_LOCALE. The
world has moved to Unicode so all ports either require it or know how to
build correctly in a Unicode environment.

security/openvpn-devel: Update 2.7_rc6 -> post-2.7 commit 38243844
OpenVPN 2.7.0 has been released and will show up as "security/openvpn"
soon.
This port skips 2.7.0 release and continues to track development versions,
which will focus on code cleanup / refactoring for the next few months.
Use this opportunity to bring option and dependency handling more in
line with main port
- X509ALTUSERNAME is gone (always-on now in upstream source)
- ASYNC_PUSH added, with freebsd-version dependent handling of
libinotify dependency (see PR 293176)
- UNITTEST added, with libcmocka dependency if unit tests are desired
security/openvpn-devel: Update 2.7_rc5 => 2.7_rc6
FreeBSD - notable changes for rc5 => rc6 update:
- bugfix on restarting a p2mp server instance with SIGUSR1
(inadvertedly closing fd 0, causing a crash on the next restart),
- prevent NULL pointer crash on suitable combination of --dns-updown
statements in openvpn config file (not pushable),
- prevent inappropriate management interface activity if a password is
set and --management-forget-disconnect or --management-signal are active,
- more conversion warnings fixed,
- remove #ifdefs around socket sendbuf/receive buf handling,
assuming that all platforms that have POSIX sockets have this,
- add mbedTLS 4 support,
- fix check for failed fork() in port-share code.

New features alpha3 -> beta1 are
- a large number of signed/unsigned related warnings have been fixed
- bugfixes in --dns-updown script for linux systems using resolvconf
- rewrite of the management interface "bytecount" infastructure to better

- PUSH_UPDATE server support (via management interface)

security/openvpn-devel: upgrade port to git commit 7b1b283478 (2.7_alpha3,
2025-07-31)
This commit brings the port to "openvpn 2.7_alpha3".
For FreeBSD, the most significant change is that "floating clients with
DCO" are supported, if the kernel has support for it (-current).
Platform-independent the "big new feature" is client side support
for PUSH_UPDATE (send new configuration data while a client-server
connection is established).
security/openvpn-devel: upgrade port to git commit df4863aa0e (2025-06-27)
This commit brings the port to "openvpn 2.7_alpha2" with a few extra
bugfixes.
There is one significant change here: the "old way" to update DNS
config via "--up contrib/pull-resolv-conf/client.up" and plugin-down-root.sh
has been replaced by a built-in mechanism (--dns-updown $script),
which is no loger "contributed" but maintained upstream, and brings
its own privilege separation / down-root mechanism. The old
contrib/pull-resolv-conf scripts have been removed from the upstream
distribution.
The port-specific "openvpn-client" script has been adjusted to do
the same thing ("run a client config with DNS setup") with the new
mechanism.
Besides this, this update has a number of minor bugfixes and improvements
to documentation, logging and testing infrastructure.

Contains a number of bugfixes and minor improvements, especially adding

The most important new feature in here is the "epoch data format",
which is a suitable data channel format & rekeying strategy for 10G+
links where regular AES rekeying starts to become a limiting factor.
When using FreeBSD DCO, epoch data format is not yet being used, because
this needs kernel changes in ovpn(4). This is on the roadmap.

Remove WWW entries moved into port Makefiles
Commit b7f05445c00f has added WWW entries to port Makefiles based on
WWW: lines in pkg-descr files.
This commit removes the WWW: lines of moved-over URLs from these
pkg-descr files.
Approved by: portmgr (tcberner)
Add WWW entries to port Makefiles
It has been common practice to have one or more URLs at the end of the
ports' pkg-descr files, one per line and prefixed with "WWW:". These
URLs should point at a project website or other relevant resources.
Access to these URLs required processing of the pkg-descr files, and
they have often become stale over time. If more than one such URL was
present in a pkg-descr file, only the first one was tarnsfered into
the port INDEX, but for many ports only the last line did contain the
port specific URL to further information.
There have been several proposals to make a project URL available as
a macro in the ports' Makefiles, over time.

security/openvpn-devel: Update to 202028 (2020-W28 snapshot)
ChangeLog:
<https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=247974#c0>
While here:
* add cmocka as build-time requisite to include the engine test.
* use PLUGINDIR rather than hacking CPPFLAGS for PLUGIN_LIBDIR,
the latter breaks -fPIC detection by configure (breaking the
shared lib build for the engine unit tests)

security/openvpn-devel: Maintainer update to 201935
This commit updates the port to the latest development snapshot.
Additional changes over PR:
- leave CATEGORIES alone (leaving net-vpn in)
- move IGNORE_SSL upwards and remove USE_LDCONFIG to please portlint -CA

Update to new snapshot.
Note I didn't take the original patch because it needed to NOT conflict
with itself, and I had to fix indentation - be sure to use TAB, not
blanks, after the VARIABLE= part.

Update openvpn-devel to 2016-52 snapshot.
Align with security/openvpn for RC script improvements, dropping the
TUNNELBLICK patch (integrated upstream) and pkg-help file (no longer
required).
Note that pkcs11* and mbedTLS currently do not mix (I randomly checked
different option sets), an issue this port shares with security/openvpn.
"checking mbedtls pkcs11 support...
configure: error: mbedtls has no pkcs11 wrapper compiled in"

security/openvpn-devel: 201607 -> 201623
Port Changes:
- password-save option is always on now, no longer optional
- LibreSSL has been renamed mbed TLS
Upstream Changes:
- Implement --push-remove option to remove options pushed by server
- Use mbedTLS 2.x now, instead of PolarSSL 1.x

By default libtool replaces -export-symbols <file> with -retain-symbols-file
<file> on ELF systems, but this doesn't really do what -export-symbols is
meant to do. On GNU ELF systems it converts <file> to a simple version
script first and then uses -version-script instead of -retain-symbols-file.
Let USES=libtool patch libtool scripts to do this on all systems with GNU
ld(1).
Bump PORTREVISION on all ports where the build log contains -export-symbols.
audio/calf: This port builds a module that now exports only one function,
but it also builds a number of executables that link to this module and
expect to see other functions. Because it's already a bit dodgy to link to
a module (libtool warns about this) let the module continue to export only
one function and instead build an ordinary library from the same source that
the executables can link to. Fix a number of other issues in the same
