Why was the website so slow for so long?

The cause of the slowdown was a change to the ZFS dataset. In conjunction with the database server, very little caching was being done. This combination resulted in increased disk I/O as the system churned through the database. Details in the blog post which outlines the various things which changed. Many graphs.

Change the way Perl modules are installed, update the default Perl to 5.18.

Before, we had:

  site_perl :           lib/perl5/site_perl/5.18
  site_perl/perl_arch : lib/perl5/site_perl/5.18/mach
  perl_man3 :           lib/perl5/5.18/man/man3

Now we have:

  site_perl : lib/perl5/site_perl
  site_arch : lib/perl5/site_perl/mach/5.18
  perl_man3 : lib/perl5/site_perl/man/man3

Modules without any .so will be installed at the same place regardless of the

- bumped PORTREVISION because this perl module didn't work   - fix installation
path of this perl module because this command failed:     perl
-M'ConfigReader::DirectiveStyle' -e 1     ConfigReader files have to be put
under   	lib/perl5/site_perl/%%PERL_VER%%/     instead of  
	lib/perl5/site_perl/   - now my new port FlowScan finds the
ConfigReader::DirectiveStyle PM.     "configure:1271: checking for
ConfigReader::DirectiveStyle"
