XEmacs is a self-documenting, customizable, extensible real-time
display editor.
Users new to XEmacs will be able to use basic features fairly rapidly
by studying the tutorial and using the self-documentation features.
XEmacs also has an extensive interactive manual browser. It is easily
extensible since its editing commands are written in Lisp.
XEmacs's many special packages handle mail reading (RMail) and sending
(Mail), outline editing (Outline), compiling (Compile), running
subshells within Emacs windows (Shell), running a Lisp read-eval-print
loop (Lisp-Interaction-Mode), automated psychotherapy (Doctor :-) and
many more. There is a WWW browsing mode written fully in elisp
that looks and behaves much like the netscape WWW browser.
XEmacs has similar functionality to GNU Emacs. It uses a different
display model, including support for Motif menu and scroll bars and the
ability to run as a widget inside other applications. Many people say
it looks nicer than GNU Emacs.

The affected ports are the ones with gettext as a run-dependency
according to ports/INDEX-7 (5007 of them) and the ones with USE_GETTEXT
in Makefile (29 of them).

- Set --mandir and --infodir in CONFIGURE_ARGS if the configure script
supports them. This is determined by running ``configure --help'' in
do-configure target and set the shell variable _LATE_CONFIGURE_ARGS
which is then passed to CONFIGURE_ARGS.
- Remove --mandir and --infodir in ports' Makefile where applicable
Few ports use REINPLACE_CMD to achieve the same effect, remove them too.
- Correct some manual pages location from PREFIX/man to MANPREFIX/man
- Define INFO_PATH where necessary
- Document that .info files are installed in a subdirectory relative to
PREFIX/INFO_PATH and slightly change add-plist-info to use INFO_PATH and
subdirectory detection.

Mass-conversion to the USE_AUTOTOOLS New World Order. The code present
in bsd.autotools.mk essentially makes this a no-op given that all the
old variables set a USE_AUTOTOOLS_COMPAT variable, which is parsed in
exactly the same way as USE_AUTOTOOLS itself.
Moreover, USE_AUTOTOOLS has already been extensively tested by the GNOME
team -- all GNOME 2.12.x ports use it.

Upgrade xemacs-devel to 21.5.b21 "corn" by following upgrade of
xemacs-devel-mule.
Rename patch-ak to patch-unexelf.c after realigning. Changes in patch-ai
were merged.
Generalize a part of patch-ak to all _LP64 archs. An __alpha__ check is
still needed as cpp on 4-STABLE does not define _LP64 on alpha.
This makes xemacs-devel build sparc64, so remove NOT_FOR_ARCHS. Hopefully
this also fixes things on ia64 (failure there reported by kris).
Remove additional CONFIGURE_ARGS for amd64 added in rev. 1.78. They don't
seem to be necessary any more. This should make plist on amd64 correct
again so unmark BROKEN there.
Fix plist. I erroneously removed ridiculously large amount in previous
commit. That is partly reverted and some further corrections are made.
Make package create lib/xemacs/site-modules directory as port does.
Bump revision to get proper package made.

Upgrade to 21.5 beta20 "cilantro" with help from xemacs-devel-mule upgrade
by Andrey Slusar. The same patch-configure.ac is used. Changes in patches
patch-mem-limits.h and patch-emacs.c are solved, but a bit differently in
source so remove them. Autoconf 2.59 is changed which changes a few
configure options names.

Remove XAWVER from Xaw3d LIB_DEPENDS re. Xaw3d will be depended upon just
fine without explicit version in there, while specifying it can
occasionally confuse (cf. ports/78527). Packages depend on specific
versions of Xaw3d and X libraries anyway and ports will get the right
version number through imake.
Revert to 21.5.17 because 21.5.18 was imported without sufficient testing
by yours truely and is causing lots of build problems. I plan to keep
working on 21.5.18 until all the bugs are eliminated.

Update to 21.5.8.
The patches patch-emacs.c and patch-mem-limits.h are no longer needed
because lim_data has been changed from an unsigned int to an unsigned
long, which should be big enough on all architectures which we support.
Make Andrey Slusar <anray AT inet DOT ua> the maintainer, since he kindly
offered to take over this port from me.
Add patch-emacs.c to fix the following problem as quoted from the PR:
The port patches src/mem-limits.h to declare the "lim_data" variable
as rlim_t (a 64-bit type), but src/emacs.c still defines it as an
integer. This makes the memory limit checking think that there are
zero bytes available.

Upgrade to version 21.5.15.
Fix the version number to eliminate the hyphen as requested in PR
ports/56958. Note that this does not close the PR since there are
other problematical ports listed in it.
Update to version 2.4.12.
Note that this port is now mis-named - 21.4 is the stable branch and 21.5
is the development branch. 21.1 (in xemacs21) is now "historical".
xemacs21 and xemacs-devel: add a LIB_DEPENDS on compface.1 so that
the mail/faces port cannot be accidentally deleted if xemacs uses it.
xemacs-devel: Add nonas,noeds to the --with-sound line because xemacs-devel
barfs when trying to use our sounds/nas port. Noticed while testing the
fix for the PR.

Add patch-al to work around an apparent bug in gcc31 in -current. The
problem was not observed with the gcc in -stable.
The apparent bug results in an endless loop if a certain routine in
lstream.c is inline'd.

Other minor changes to fix things
Add ``--with-ldap=no'' to the CONFIGURE_ARGS to avoid missing a dependency in
case the user has LDAP installed. This is one of those things which are
automatically detected at configure time.
Update to 21.4.5. The problem with a Lisp error occuring when the user does a
font change in the Options menu seems to be fixed, although no change actually
seems to result.
