Why was the website so slow for so long?

The cause of the slowdown was a change to the ZFS dataset. In conjunction with the database server, very little caching was being done. This combination resulted in increased disk I/O as the system churned through the database. Details in the blog post which outlines the various things which changed. Many graphs.

Mark as deprecated: either fails to fetch, and has done so for some time;
and/or fails to build; and/or the maintainer has recommended
that the ports are obsolete and should be deleted.

In each of these cases, the port has been in trouble for quite some time.
The deprecation date is set for April 09, 2004, except for a very few
ports that are in really bad shape (or the maintainer has recommended
deletion), in which case they are set for March 09, 2004.

If anyone wants to keep these ports in the ports collection, now is
the time to step up and fix them.

Per distfile report, update WWW site and also mastersite. However,
this port has gotten stale, and this version (1.0.6) is not available
there; only 1.1.0. Since the maintainer has not been active in the
FreeBSD community for quite some time, reset to ports@FreeBSD.org.
If someone uses this port, the time to adopt it would be now ...
