libxcoderUserland library and tools for NETINT Quadra video processing units
5.9.0multimediaΣ=0 Package not present on quarterly. This port was created during this quarter. It will be in the next quarterly branch but not the current one.
libxcoder is the userland library of the NETINT Quadra video processing
units (VPU), a family of PCIe cards that decode, encode (H.264, H.265, AV1,
JPEG), scale and run AI inference on video in hardware. FFmpeg and GStreamer
plugins use it to drive the card.
The card is a standard NVMe device: libxcoder sends its commands through
the Linux-compatible passthrough ioctls of nvme(4). No extra kernel driver
is needed.
The Quadra card is an NVMe controller (e.g. /dev/nvme1 and /dev/nvme1n1).
libxcoder opens both nodes, which are root-only by default. To let the
members of a group (here "video") use the card, add to /etc/devfs.rules:
[localrules=10]
add path 'nvme1' mode 0660 group video
add path 'nvme1n1' mode 0660 group video
then set devfs_system_ruleset="localrules" in /etc/rc.conf and run
"service devfs restart". Use the unit numbers of your Quadra card:
ni_rsrc_list shows them. Do not give access to your system disks.
libxcoder keeps its lock and shared memory files in /tmp (NI_LCK_*).
quadra_fw_upgrade (with nvmefw) flashes the card's firmware. Run it with
-n first (dry run).
